Joshua Tree Wind Farms
Through Brewer Joshua Tree LLC, AEEI plans to develop and operate wind turbines to be located in the greater Tehachapi, California, USA region. The company plans to establish connections with the Southern California Edison electric grid once the proper licenses and permits are obtained. Brent Brewer, President of AEEI, owns 50.1% of Joshua Tree in connection with a 30-year wind turbine site lease on real property (acquired by him approximately 20 years ago) necessary to construct and operate wind turbines. In the beginning, two factors were crucial for the successful completion of the project. First, the right expertise and technology partner was needed to take “pride of ownership” in the project. Second, the company needed to take advantage of advances in wind turbine technology to avoid the most common failure point at the gearbox and develop turbine blade designs for higher efficiencies in capturing wind energy. Those two objectives have been met to reduce operations and maintenance budgets, reduce risk factors and increase profitability
The company is working with several vendors and manufacturers of wind turbine components to shorten the standard 18-24 month wait times for large scale wind turbines. Joshua Tree is also in the process of the reviewing turnkey proposals for transportation, construction and connections of the wind turbines. Additionally, the company is analyzing strategies of incorporating advanced blade designs that were developed for the DOE at Sandia National Laboratories and are now in production and site testing by Knight & Carver. Joshua Tree has an excellent, long-term relationship with the grid planners on interconnection. Furthermore, the company is under application for 4,480 additional acres for wind, solar and other energy technologies suitable for interconnection.
