Grid Friendly Power
The electric grid is connecting a greater variety of energy sources and energy demands at greater and greater distances. The Edison Electric Institute estimates $31.5 billion will be invested in the grid between 2006 and 2009. Transmission inefficiencies occur over long distances and bottlenecks occur where line capacity cannot carry power that is available. Renewable and intermittent sources of electricity must be accommodated as more electricity is produced through distributed generation and intermittent renewables like wind and solar. The AEEI Renewable Energy Park model addresses these issues by maximizing local generation of electricity and incorporating methods of storing electrical power so it may be more effectively utilized.
